![]() ![]() ![]() Written with lucid and compelling style, this book goes beyond truncated modes of thought, inviting us to entertain iconoclastic views, and to ask why things are as they are. He affirms the relevance of taboo ideologies like Marxism, demonstrating the importance of class analysis in understanding political realities and dealing with the ongoing collision between ecology and global corporatism. He also maps out the external and internal forces that destroyed communism, and the disastrous impact of the "free-market" victory on eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Parenti shows how "rational fascism" renders service to capitalism, how corporate power undermines democracy, and how revolutions are a mass empowerment against the forces of exploitative privilege. These terms are often bandied about, but seldom explored in the original and exciting way that has become Michael Parenti's trademark. A bold and entertaining exploration of the epic struggles of yesterday and today.īlackshirts & Reds explores some of the big issues of our time: fascism, capitalism, communism, revolution, democracy, and ecology. ![]()

That sometimes results in…let’s say, oddities. The company has found lots of neat hacks to get the job done fast and quickly, including other dimensions and their resources. The series is centered on a science fiction version of a Scandinavian superstore (go ahead and guess which one). I love both novellas, but for completely different reasons. Where Finna is an entertaining novella full of portal jumping pirates, Defekt is more of a Cronenberg/science fiction horror tale with a humorous undertone (and overtones, for that matter). Defekt may just be my favorite of the series (so far – please let there be more). What I got was SO much better than I expected. I went into this novella with high expectations – and was blown away. As a huge fan of Finna, I just knew that the sequel was going to be amazing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Or was it thirtieth? Looking for a new series but not sure if you want to invest the time and energy? May I suggest checking out Wet for Titan, a fun and super-hot prequel to Rock Hard and Wet (Nymphs of New York Series Book One). I received a copy of this story for an honest review for Amber's Reading Room. Nothing will stand in his way, no creature, no matter how powerful, can stop this Titan from claiming his mate. He'll travel to the ends of the universe if he must to convince Telly she belongs with him, and only him. Pyroeis has long been a wanderer, and a lucky hand of cards has gifted him with the one thing he always wanted, at the expense of what he never knew he needed. He's going to claim his mate whether she likes it or not. Now her fury has been unleashed, and she has no problem bringing an arrogant Titan back to Earth. She hadn't been looking for love, a relationship, or anything but a private room to retreat to in the castle. Telesto has been reasonably content as a member of Poseidon's harem, until he came along and ripped her free of her moorings, setting her adrift without gravity to keep her feet on the ground. It's never good to piss off a goddess, even a minor one. Welcome to the world of the Nymphs of New York. However, she only has three days to find someone he deems worthy. Poseidon, god of the sea, proclaims that any nymph from his harem who wishes to search out a mate may do so. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Every time he has an idea, he becomes unsure of the idea,” Lewis said.īut Lewis said “the work they did together was so much better than anything they did separately.” It would create the field of behavioral economics, for which Danny won the Nobel Prize in 2002. “It’s like watching an animal trying to swallow itself whole, starting with his tail. Meet 81-year-old Danish architect Jan Gehl who, for more than fifty years, has focused on improving the quality of urban life by helping people to “re-conquer the city.” Gehl has studied the relationship between life and form since the mid-1960s, when he started questioning the modernist approach of looking at the architectural model from above instead of from the inside. “We now know that first, we form the cities, but then the cities form us.” ![]() These Are Jan Gehl’s Methods For Building Good Cities ![]() ![]() He has not learned to think like a mountain. The cowman who cleans his range of wolves does not realize that he is taking over the wolf's job of trimming the herd to fit the range. And perhaps with better cause, for while a buck pulled down by wolves can be replaced in two or three years, a range pulled down by too many deer may fail of replacement in as many decades. But after seeing the green fire die, I sensed that neither the wolf nor the mountain agreed with such a view.…I now suspect that just as a deer herd lives in mortal fear of its wolves, so does a mountain live in mortal fear of its deer. I was young then, and full of trigger-itch I thought that because fewer wolves meant more deer, that no wolves would mean hunters' paradise. I realized then, and have known ever since, that there was something new to me in those eyes - something known only to her and to the mountain. ![]() ![]() We reached the old wolf in time to watch a fierce green fire dying in her eyes. ![]() ![]() ![]() In reviewing this book, my slight bias, of which I’m forthcoming, arises squarely from the fact that there hasn’t been anything similar that singularly deals with the Indian experience of colonization. African-Americans have been able to recount the horrors of slavery through books such as Inhuman Bondage and Many Thousands Gone, but Indians have only been served an ersatz history of the empire by apologists such as Niall Ferguson ( Empire) and Lawrence James ( The Rise and Fall of the British Empire). While much has been written about the British empire and the brutality of colonization, none of those accounts came from an Indian perspective. ![]() I have been waiting for a book like An Era of Darkness for quite some time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() But if she doesn’t find someone she can lean on when the heat gets intense, her life may go down in flames.
